News From My Father’s Service

I found out from the sibling group text; there was this poster and on it were various headlines or articles concerning my father from the local paper over the years. There was a reference to one article headline from the paper in his obituary. If the poster is anything like the obituary, then it was all about him, which I guess is the norm. I have no idea about how funerals generally go since the last one I went to was at least 20 years ago and this particular one was a celebration of life and my friend had planned her own service. Other than that, I have made it a habit not to attend funerals.

I’d also found out that my brother had “interviewed” my father about 2 years ago and had around 5 hours worth of audio clips. Evidently one of my sisters played a little clip at his service. I texted my sister asking for a copy of the clip. She did text me back a clip which was 17 minutes long.

I don’t know whether or not part of this clip was actually used at my father’s service, considering the contents. The first little bit of the tape (sounding like it started in the middle), mentions all of us kids (there were 8 of us kids) and how we all got along together. It also mentioned my parents doing discipline separately. My father said my mother never said “wait til your father gets home” She would discipline the kids and he would too if necessary. (His words). He also mentioned how we all grew up physically, emotionally, and spiritually well. He only mentions 3 of us kids in this clip: myself, my twin brother and my older brother. No one else. One weird part was that my twin brother was the one recording all of this, yet my father mentioned him by his name, as if it was someone else doing the recording.

That part of the clip only lasts for probably 3 or 4 minutes- not very long at all. My father then launched into this tangent about all sorts of “interesting” things, which I did not know about.

More next time about my reaction to this initial audio clip and the crazy experiences my father had and with whom.
