A 7-Minute Clip

My sister texted me an audio clip of my brother “interviewing” my father after the funeral. There evidently was a clip used at the service, but it couldn’t have been this one. I only say that because of the contents of this particular clip. My father only spent the first couple of minutes talking about us kids, while the rest of the time it was about some of his business “adventures”.

I had 7 brothers and sisters. My father mentioned that with all these kids they all understood they (us kids) wouldn’t get everything we wanted. He also mentioned my mother would do her disciplining and he wouldn’t interfere, so to speak.

That was a very interesting statement, particularly since it wasn’t true. He must have been wearing full-strength rose-colored glasses. The other part concerning my mother’s discipline isn’t really true either, at least as far as I’m concerned. As my brother was recording this, my father reference him in one of his stories. The weird part was my father calling my brother by his given name. It wasn’t confusing to me, but it was to my massage therapist when I played the message for her. I don’t know if he forgot who he was talking to or what.

The conversation then moved onto his various business ventures. This where things got really interesting for me. There was a business venture involving a ranch, which I will talk about at another time.

In my hometown, my father ran a local hotel. He also was involved in the hotel business in Denver, Colorado. I found out from the audio clip that my father evidently took a plane to Denver. This flight was not from a commercial airline. My hometown airport was a pretty small airport. I’m not sure how he flew, but large commercial airplanes didn’t fly there, only really small ones, due to population size of my hometown. The cost of flying out of that small airport would have been expensive, since options would have limited. Factor in a large family and…..
