More On My Father, PT.3

Last Saturday, I received a group text stating that my father was doing okay, though he had lost a lot of weight and gets confused at times. He evidently likes to talk on the phone and talks about me often. They said they were going to call me until they realized the time difference didn’t allow that.

I was encouraged to call my father and remind him where I live and that I own a house. I first called my oldest sister and spoke to her about what’s going on, followed by my older sister. I ended up calling my father on Sunday, with the idea that my father’s girlfriend would be on standby to answer the phone.

Like the dutiful daughter I am, I did call my father at the appointed hour and his girlfriend answered the phone. She gave the phone to my father once I’d identified myself. I reminded my father who I was and where I lived.

While he had been talking about me, my experience was different. It seemed like he had no idea who I really was. He seemed surprised where I lived and how long I’d owned my house.

We didn’t talk long before he decided to hand the phone to my “mother.” He handed the phone to his girlfriend, who is not my mother. She seemed confused and handed the phone right back to my father. Afterall, she was not privy to the conversation between me and my father.

It made me wonder when I was told several weeks ago that my father had been talking to my mother, and I thought he was talking to my deceased mother. I figured he didn’t have a lot of time left, if he was talking to my mother.

Well perhaps he wasn’t talking to her after all. Maybe instead of my mother, he was actually talking to his girlfriend. And I only thought of that after talking to my father the other day. It’s so confusing.

What else is confusing is me being the “dutiful daughter”. More on that and my father if there’s any news.

As always feel free to drop me a line or if there is anything you want me to cover.
