How my new cat triggered me.

About a month ago I went over to the local humane society to see about adopting a cat. My beloved cat had died during the pandemic, and I was getting “cat fever” to get another one. My initial intention was to get 2 kittens so they could be together. That is not what ended up happening. The cat that ended up “speaking” to me was a male tuxedo cat about 2.5 years old or so. I started with this cat and after looking at other cats/kittens, this one spoke to me. So, I adopted this black and white cat (a Tuxedo cat).

I took this cat home and put him in a room by himself. He proceeded to hide underneath a piece of furniture I had in his area. After a day he would come out when I was in his area. Eventually I introduced him to everyone else in the family

Now when I adopted this cat, I renamed him Stevie Ray Vaughn. I have a musical cat family.

At any rate, when I adopted Stevie, I was given his history, which I only glanced at, looking at his recent history and treatments he’d received. I made an appointment with my Vet for an initial exam.

Then sometime later I decided to look more closely at his history (I must have had way too much time on my hands!)

That’s when things started to get interesting.

When I went through Stevie’s complete record from the Humane Society, I discovered some very interesting information. Evidently, Stevie was among a litter of kittens who tested positive for feline distemper. Stevie was older than the kittens, but he was sent to the local humane society.

Stevie was 2.5 yrs old when I adopted him and he’d been there for 3 months. He was the one I was supposed to get, which I did. This particular shelter is a kill shelter, but I don’t know how long they hold on to animals before they kill them.

At any rate, I adopted Stevie.

When I read through his medical records including why he was surrendered in the first place, it was not a good situation for him. As things turned out he had diarrhea and was covered in feces in his hind end. He also had diarrhea. He ended up at the local humane society where we found each other.

It was reading his history that triggered me.

More to follow.
