The Body and MY Dissociation: how it worked for me and what I’ve learned.

I was working in a place where I was lifting 65 lbs cases of water bottles. The weight itself wasn’t an issue, but the awkward size of the case was. I ended up with a back injury which showed up on the x-ray machine during the worker’s comp case. At any rate, I went to physical therapy to try to heal my back, which was officially designated a herniated disc with a permanent partial disability by the workers comp judge.

So I went to physical therapy and this woman made a molded back brace for me to wear while at work. This brace covered the lower back and was rather large. Everything was fine for me, at least for a while. The physical therapy was quite helpful, particularly at work.

After a while though the brace started to become uncomfortable at times. My physical therapist checked the back brace and found it to be not molded to my body anymore! She was shocked and couldn’t understand what happened. That was one of the first times I was aware of how the other alters affected the body. I discovered that while I had the injury, not everyone else within suffered the same injury. There were times when other alters were out and had no back injury issues at all. I know that might sound strange, but I had a back injury though it seemed that my other alters didn’t. That means that they were able to lift things that might hurt me but wouldn’t bother them. In the end, my back is fine and there is no problem with me lifting anything.

One of my alters is a protector alter, whose name is Joe. He is much larger than I am, around 6′ 2″ with a muscular build. Once I became aware of Joe and who he was (co-consciousness), I started to learn how when Joe was out, what would happen with the body. Even though the body is 5’7″ and a female, I could feel my body feeling much bigger than it was when I’m in it. It’s really interesting because I can sense that Joe is really bigger than me. He’s also much stronger than I am. What I learned from Joe had to do with how my body “changed” when he was out. I really could feel how much “taller” and “bigger” the body was. Still to this day, I find this interesting.

From these experiences and more, I learned that the body follows the mind. I mean, how could “I” have a back injury while another alter not. They had no problem lifting things or their body was different which is why the back brace different fit. It also meant that my eyesight has gotten better from needing glasses to not, though most people don’t understand why that is. We all have the ability to do that. It’s a matter of getting rid of what “society says” should happen. forget what society says and follow your own heart. If I can heal my body, so can you!
